EPA released the third edition of the Climate Change Indicators in the United States report. The report pulls together observed data on key measures of our environment, including U.S. and global temperature and precipitation, ocean heat and ocean acidity, sea level, length of growing season, and many others. With 30 indicators that include over 80 maps and graphs showing long-term trends, the report demonstrates that climate change is already affecting our environment and our society. Consistent with the recently released National Climate Assessment, this report presents clear evidence that the impacts of climate change are already occurring across the United States. Read more about the third edition here. http://go.usa.gov/8ErB On Monday, June 2, 2014, EPA will announce its proposed rule on carbon emissions for existing power plants. Here are the top five things to know. - Our climate is changing, and we are feeling the dangerous and costly effects right now.
- Power plants are the largest source of carbon pollution in the U.S. Although there are limits for other pollutants like arsenic and mercury, there are currently no national limits on carbon.
- States and businesses have already charted a course toward cleaner, more efficient power.
- With EPA's flexible proposal, we can cut carbon pollution, while still having all the power we need to grow our economy.
- Americans will see significant public health and climate benefits, now and for future generations.
