EPA recently announced the winners of the Green Power Leadership Awards, awarding 19 Green Power Partners and four suppliers. The Green Power Leaders were chosen from over 1,300 partner organizations that comprise EPA's Green Power Partnership. The winners are recognized for their efforts in expanding the domestic renewable energy market.
From using enough green power to meet over 100% of electricity needs to installing on-site solar arrays or entering long-term power purchase agreements, these organizations are demonstrating that green power is both accessible and affordable. EPA Accepting Proposals for Environmental Education Grants Program
EPA is seeking grant proposals for the initial stage of the 2014 Environmental Education (EE) Grants Program. This year, EPA intends to issue two Requests for Proposals (RFP) and the EE Model Grants RFP is now available for viewing. Three grants, for approximately $192,200 each, will be awarded under this RFP.
Under the EE Model Grants RFP, EPA seeks proposals to support EE projects that promote environmental awareness and stewardship. Proposals must include projects that design, demonstrate, and/or disseminate model EE practices, methods, or techniques. Each funded proposal must demonstrate replicability by locating and conducting the project in more than one state or U.S. territory during the project period. Proposals are due February 2, 2015.
EPA anticipates releasing an additional RFP under the 2014 EE Grants Program in early winter, for local grants that will be awarded by EPA regional offices.

Sampling the Garden Soil: Environmental Justice in Action
When a local resident raised concerns about the quality of the soil in Eugene, Oregon, EPA listened and collaborated to create the My Garden-West Eugene project. Cliff Villa of EPA's Seattle Office explains how his region partnered with local non-profits, state governments, and local governments to offer soil testing in communities for residents concerned about soil pollution in their gardens. Soil sample kits were distributed to residents who later brought the samples to the My Garden event for EPA testing.
