[PDF 335KB] The Public Health Law Program (PHLP) has published an inventory of state legal strategies to help assess doctor shopping laws. Doctor shopping is when a patient visits multiple healthcare practitioners to obtain controlled substances without the prescribers’ knowledge of the other prescriptions. Legal Mechanisms Supporting Accountable Care Principles. [PDF 311KB] Published in the American Journal for Public Health 2014;104(11):2048–51, this article provides the legal context for accountable care, the healthcare delivery mechanism through which providers, facilities, and public health professionals coordinate activities, avoid inefficiencies, and improve public health outcomes. CDC National Health Report. CDC published a special MMWR supplement that uses data from 19 surveillance sources to provide recent trends in the nation’s health. The report reviews population health in the United States and provides an assessment of recent progress in addressing high-priority health issues. It identifies important public health successes and challenges to help guide national policy and programmatic efforts to improve health and quality of life. Webinar—Shifting Paradigms: Medical Ethics, Public Health Ethics. The American Health Lawyers Association and PHLP are co-hosting a three-part webinar series that will give an overview of medical ethics, public health ethics, and the law and highlight ethical issues around patient safety and healthcare-associated infections. An interactive roundtable will enable participants to join in the discussion. The second webinar in the series will take place Thursday, November 13, 2014, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm (EST) and will offer CLE credit.  |   |
